In preparation for the upcoming academic year, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) is set to deploy Primary Teacher Education (PTE) teachers to Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) starting in January 2024. This move is part of the ongoing efforts to support the pioneer class of students who will join Grade 9 in the new school year under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
With the expansion of the education system to include JSS, which marks a crucial phase of learning, these PTE teachers will play a vital role in ensuring smooth delivery of quality education as the new structure begins to take shape.
The deployment of PTE teachers to JSS reflects the government’s commitment to addressing the growing demand for qualified educators in these new grades. These teachers, who have specialized training in primary education, are expected to bridge the gap in staffing and help provide the much-needed instructional support. By involving PTE teachers, TSC aims to maintain continuity in teaching as the education system adapts to the CBC’s integrated approach to learning.
In addition to the deployment of teachers, the TSC has also announced plans to release a mass promotion advert in December.
This advert will focus on teacher grades that were not included in the recent promotion exercise, offering opportunities for many educators to advance in their careers. The upcoming promotions are expected to address the concerns of teachers who have been waiting for advancement, ensuring that those who meet the qualifications are recognized and rewarded for their service.
These initiatives, together, reflect TSC’s ongoing efforts to improve the quality of education in Kenya by addressing staffing needs, recognizing teacher achievements, and supporting the successful implementation of the new curriculum in schools
