President Samia Suluhu Hassan has unveiled ambitious plans to build a Sh22.2 billion indoor music arena in Dar es Salaam, aimed at elevating Tanzania’s entertainment industry.
This project, which is being funded by a Sh322.9 billion soft loan from South Korea, is a direct response to growing demands from local artists for better event infrastructure. By developing world-class facilities, Tanzania seeks to rival other African countries, such as Rwanda, which has its own state-of-the-art BK Arena. The new arena will provide a venue that meets international standards, fostering the growth of the country’s entertainment sector.
The announcement of this music arena comes at a time when the need for improved infrastructure in Tanzania’s entertainment scene has become increasingly evident.
Artists like Diamond Platnumz have previously voiced frustrations over the lack of reliable venues, particularly after the mishap at the Trace Music Summit in Zanzibar. The new arena will address these issues by providing a modern and secure space for concerts, music festivals, and other entertainment events. It is expected to boost Tanzania’s appeal as a destination for international music and cultural events, thereby enhancing its global reputation.
In addition to the music arena, Tanzania has secured a Sh17.1 billion deal with the Italian firm SPAR to construct a 32,000-seat stadium in Dodoma, set to be completed in 24 months. This stadium will serve as a key venue for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), one of Africa’s most prestigious football tournaments.
The development of such a large-scale facility aligns with Tanzania’s broader vision to strengthen its position in international sports and entertainment, creating opportunities for both domestic and international events.
The dual infrastructure projects — the music arena in Dar es Salaam and the stadium in Dodoma — signify Tanzania’s commitment to modernizing its entertainment and sports sectors. These initiatives are expected to have far-reaching benefits, including attracting tourism, creating jobs, and generating revenue for the local economy. Furthermore, these venues will offer Tanzanian artists and athletes the chance to perform and compete on world-class stages.
The plans for these major developments highlight President Suluhu Hassan’s focus on advancing Tanzania’s entertainment and sports infrastructure. As the country continues to invest in its future, these projects are set to play a key role in enhancing its status as a cultural hub in East Africa, while boosting its appeal as a destination for global events and visitors.
