Kenyan actress Winnie Bwire, popularly known for her role as Dida in the TV series Sultana, has passed away. She lost her battle with metastatic breast cancer on September 5, 2024, while undergoing treatment in Turkey. Her family expressed deep gratitude to the public for their support during her illness, having previously appealed for financial help to cover her medical expenses.
Her family announced her death on Thursday morning.
“It is with a heavy heart and humble acceptance of God’s will that we announce Winfred Bwire Ndubi lost her battle to cancer on 5th September 2024 while undergoing treatment in Turkey,” the family said in a statement.
Winnie had been battling cancer for several years, and her journey was marked by multiple hospitalizations and treatments. Despite her struggles, she remained hopeful and continuously shared her gratitude for the support she received from Kenyans.
Her passing has left a significant void in the Kenyan entertainment industry, where she was admired not only for her acting but also for her courage in facing her illness.
“If you can support me, I have nothing to give in return, but you will save my life. I didn’t want this video to be emotional; I wanted it to be filled with hope,” she said in the video.
“Right now, I’m so frustrated by how expensive healthcare is. Every time I feel like I’ve made ten steps forward, it’s like I’m being dragged back eight steps. Thank you so much for praying for me.” She shared this during her appealing for financial assistance to continue with her cancer treatment.
May she rest in peace.
