Mumias East MP Peter Salasya recently found himself in a tense situation at Nyayo Stadium during the Harambee Stars’ match against Gabon.
A group of youths accosted him, reportedly due to his criticisms of ODM leader Raila Odinga and President William Ruto. In a video circulating online, one of the individuals can be heard telling Salasya, “Heshimu Rais na uheshimu Baba,” meaning “Respect the President and respect Baba.” Security officers intervened quickly, escorting the MP out of the stadium to avoid further escalation.
This incident adds to a series of confrontations Salasya has been involved in. In January 2024, he was arrested for allegedly assaulting Malaha-Isango Ward MCA Peter Walunya during a funeral in Kakamega County. The altercation was reportedly triggered by a disagreement over protocol. In addition, Salasya’s car was damaged by a group of youths in Kakamega in December 2024. The MP claimed that his political adversaries orchestrated the attack to prevent him from attending a funeral.
The confrontations continued in March 2025 when Salasya clashed with former Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa during a rally at Shianda market in Kakamega. The exchange occurred after Salasya interrupted Echesa’s speech, accusing him of corruption. Echesa demanded respect, asserting his seniority.
