On Tuesday morning, Multimedia Umiversity students took to the streets to protest over delayment of Higher Education Loans Board(HELB) funds by the government. The chaos erupted and brought distruction along Magadi road in Kajiado county.
It was also alleged that the varsity closed the student’s portal before they had completed registering for the current semester session classes. The students also complained about missing marks on their portal and more so to the graduating class of 2023. This however pulled them out to block the road outside their school gate.
The alarmed voices in the morning hours of Tuesday, also complained of the inadequate facilities and services offered by the varsity, poor sanitation and the univeristy to improve Wi-Fi connections across the campus.
It is also reported that the university is set to conduct it’s tenth graduation ceremony on Friday 27,October therefore pleading their results to be reflected on the portal.
Students also have been seen protesting over the delayment of helb funds which most of the students depend on as an upkeep. Earlier on, Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino spoke for the comrades and wondered why student leaders were silent when their funds had not been disbursed.
“Helb must never delay. Student leaders you are sleeping, you are wasting constituents who elected you instead of representing them you are misrepresenting them. You must wake up, come out and call for demos. Let HELB not delay even for one minute,” Babu Owino said.
