Amidst the growing tension on campuses nationwide, a prominent lobby group representing students, parents, and education advocates has called for an extension to the university semester in response to ongoing strike disruptions.
The strike, led by faculty demanding better wages, benefits, and working conditions, has severely disrupted classes, assignments, and exams, leaving students in limbo about their academic progress.
The lobby group, which includes former educators, union leaders, and concerned citizens, gathered outside the national education ministry to voice their concerns. They argue that an extended semester is the fairest solution to ensure students are not penalized for circumstances beyond their control. “Students should not be left to bear the brunt of this strike,” said Maria Evans, a spokesperson for the group. “An extension would provide the time needed to fully make up missed lessons, assignments, and exams, ensuring students are not disadvantaged in their education.”
The group’s call for action has resonated with many students who are frustrated with the uncertainty surrounding their academic futures. “We’ve already lost weeks of learning, and no one is giving us a clear timeline for when it will end,” said James Liu, a senior at one of the affected universities. “An extended semester would give us a chance to catch up without rushing through our coursework.”
