A National Police Reservist (NPR) and a third year student at Kibabii University were on Thursday 14 killed by the armed bandits in Kiriamet regions in Baringo county. The University student who was on his long holiday at his home place with the company of the Police officer went to a nearby bush to harvest honey when they were attacked by the bandits.
After the attack, the student died on the spot while the the overpowered officer died on his way to the hospital. The attack by the bandits in the county comes some months after Cabinet Secretary Prof. Kithure Kindiki reaffirmed his earlier position that he would permanently end banditry in the country.
The killing of the two by the bandits have brought tension to the villagers . With the only university student in the area, parents of the deceased have been left in tears .
“Huyu mtoto wangu ni mtoto wa shule na alikuwa anafaa kurudi shule leo. Kijana yangu ambaye ni wa university alikuwa anatoa asali ndio apate kwenda shule,” his father said.
It was however confirmed that nothing was stolen by the bandits during the incident.
Baringo county Governor ordered the arrest of the criminals. “Target those criminals, arrest them and their financiers because for as long as there is no accountability they will still hit even when the operation is over,” Baringo Governor Benjamin Cheboi.
