Kibabii University is preparing for its 8th Students Organization of Kibabii University (SOKU) elections, with the current SOKU Parliament scheduled for dissolution on March 14, 2025. This action aligns with the university’s constitutional guidelines, which mandate the conclusion of the current student leadership’s term before initiating the electoral process.
Historically, Kibabii University has adhered to a structured approach in its student elections. For instance, the 5th SOKU elections took place on April 28, 2022, following the dissolution of the preceding council as stipulated in Article 28 of the SOKU Constitution. This process included pre-election activities such as the “Kamukunji” forum, where candidates presented their manifestos to the student body.

In the 2023 elections, the university appointed the Students Electoral Commission (SEC) officials through a competitive process to oversee the electoral proceedings. The elections were held on March 31, 2023, culminating in the inauguration of the new student leaders on April 3, 2023.
The 2024/2025 student leaders participated in an induction program at the Kenya School of Government on July 11 and 12, 2024, following their election. This training, themed “Leading in Times of Crisis,” covered various leadership aspects and featured notable speakers, including former Nigerian President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo.
The upcoming 8th SOKU elections will follow a similar structured process. The dissolution of the current parliament on March 14, 2025, will mark the beginning of the electoral activities, including the nomination of candidates, campaigns, and the election of new student leaders. This process ensures that the student body is represented by leaders who are democratically elected and aligned with the university’s commitment to governance and student welfare.
Engaging in these elections provides students with an opportunity to participate actively in university governance, fostering leadership skills and contributing to the institution’s development. The university administration, through the Department of Student Affairs, continues to support and oversee these processes to ensure fairness and transparency.
As Kibabii University approaches this significant event, the collective involvement of students, faculty, and administration will play a crucial role in upholding the institution’s democratic values and promoting a vibrant academic community.
