Governors To Shut Down Counties If Government Fails To Release Funds

Speaking at the recent meeting, The Council of Governors (Cog) Chairperson Anne Waiguru has ordered governors to have a shut down to counties operations ahead of National Treasury failing to release funds in time to the counties.

In the meeting, the Chair Anne Waiguru said, “We received proposal on the Review of PFM Act, updates of the progress of CAIPs, report on Managed Equipment Services and most importantly discussed the status of equitable share disbursement.

It is in the light of this that the Council issued a 14- day notice to shut down counties if Treasury does not release Sh94.35B owed for Feb, March and April arrears. ”

She added that the National Treasury was set to release Ksh. 94.35 billion to counties for devolvement, which they in turn did not making governors work more difficult. The National Treasury had not disbursed for the last four months.

Counties for instance Nairobi County is experiencing less service to its people due to lack of funds set to be released by the Treasury. In the press meeting, Governors said that the government owes them Ksh. 934.35b.

The governors have therefore declared that counties will soon shut down its operations failure of the National Treasury to release the funds.
