EACC Summons Mumias East MP Peter Salasya Over Assault On MCA

Mumias East MP Peter Kalerwa Salasya was arrested and detained at Shianda Police Station on Friday after attacking Malaha MCA Peter Indimuli Walunya during a funeral in Kakamega County.

Today, The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has summoned the Member of Parliament over an assault of the Malaha-Isongo-Makunga MCA Mr Indimuli. MP Peter Salasya was charged with two offenses including assault causing actual bodily harm and creating a disturbance in a manner that breached section 95 (1) of the penal code.

EACC CEO Twalib Mbarak ordered the MP to appear before EACC offices on Tuesday next week to record a statement following the assault on the MCA.

“The commission is in receipt of an allegation that you assaulted Hon. Peter Walunya Indimuli, the Member of County Assembly Malaha-Isongo-Makunga Ward during a funeral service in Mumias East, Kakamega on Friday 12th January 2024,” stated Mbarak.

“To this end, you are required to appear at the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission’s offices at Integrity Centre, Nairobi, on Tuesday 23rd January 2024 at 09:00 am for an interview and statement recording.” The statement read.

The Anti-Corruption Commission termed MP Salasya’s action as a serious breach of the integrity and ethical requirements.

The assault arose during the funeral service when then MP was  granted a chance to address the mourners and console the deceased’s family during which he shared his history with the family, acknowledging the role they played in his life.

Later on the MP was aggrieved after the MCA Peter Indimuli failed to give him enough chance to shower and mourn with the family of the deceased. Salasya, however, shouted down the MCA demanding him to take a seat but the MCA declined.

“I have told you to sit down, I’m repeating it, go sit down,” the lawmaker reprimanded. This led Salasya to slap the politician.
