David Moyes Set to Become New Everyone’s Manager

0

David Moyes has agreed to return as Everton’s manager, more than a decade after his initial tenure at the club.

The 61-year-old is set to replace Sean Dyche, who was dismissed following a series of poor results that left Everton 16th in the Premier League, just one point above the relegation zone.

Moyes previously managed Everton from 2002 to 2013, transforming the team from relegation candidates to European contenders, including a run to the Champions League qualifiers in 2005. After leaving Everton, he had managerial stints at Manchester United, Real Sociedad, Sunderland, and most recently, West Ham United, where he led the club to win the UEFA Conference League before departing at the end of last season.

His return to Everton aligns with the priorities of the club’s new American owners, The Friedkin Group, who believe he can help the team avoid relegation and lay the foundations for future growth as they prepare to move to the new Bramley-Moore Dock stadium.

Moyes is expected to sign a contract running at least two years and will immediately prepare for his first match back against Aston Villa on Wednesday

Harambee Stars Knocked Out From Mapinduzi Cup After Defeat To Zanzibar

0

Harambee Stars have been eliminated from the 2025 Mapinduzi Cup following a narrow defeat to hosts Zanzibar. In a closely contested match at Gombani Stadium, Zanzibar secured a 1-0 victory, propelling them to the tournament’s final.

Kenya entered the match needing only a draw to advance but faced a formidable challenge from the home side. The decisive moment came when Zanzibar capitalized on a defensive lapse to score the lone goal. Adding to Kenya’s woes, they were reduced to ten men following a red card, further hampering their efforts to equalize.

This result marks a setback for Harambee Stars, who had shown promise earlier in the tournament with a 2-0 win over Tanzania.

The team will now regroup and focus on preparations for upcoming competitions, including the African Nations Championship (CHAN) set to be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania later this year.

Moi University Staff Resume Strike Days After Calling it Off

Moi University staff have resumed their strike, citing the administration’s failure to honor the return-to-work agreement signed in November 2024.

The Universities Academic Staff Union (UASU) and the Kenya University Staff Union (KUSU) issued a joint statement on January 10, 2025, directing all workers to stay away from their workstations until further notice.

The initial strike began in August 2024 and was suspended after the government pledged to provide Ksh500 million to address the staff’s grievances.

However, union officials now report that the university has failed to implement the agreed-upon terms, including the timely payment of salaries.

UASU Secretary at Moi University, Nyabuta Ojuki, stated that staff have not received salaries for the past two months, prompting the decision to resume the strike.

The ongoing industrial action is expected to disrupt learning at the institution, affecting both students and academic programs. The unions have urged the government and university management to promptly address the issues to prevent further disruptions.

As the situation develops, students and stakeholders are advised to monitor official communications from the university and the unions for updates on the resolution of the strike.

Candidates Unable To Acess 2024 KCSE Results As KNEC Website Collapses

Following the release of the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results, many candidates and parents have experienced difficulties accessing their results due to technical issues with the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) portal. The website, results.knec.ac.ke, reportedly crashed shortly after the announcement, attributed to an overwhelming number of users attempting to access the site simultaneously.

KNEC has acknowledged the situation, noting that the portal has been receiving up to 300,000 hits per second, leading to delays. They have assured the public that the system is operational and have urged users to be patient as they work to manage the high traffic.

In the meantime, candidates experiencing difficulties are advised to contact KNEC through the toll-free numbers 0800724900 or 0800721410 for assistance.

This year’s shift from the traditional SMS method to an online portal for result dissemination aimed to enhance efficiency and security. However, the unexpected technical challenges have caused frustration among users. KNEC is working to resolve these issues to ensure all candidates can access their results promptly.

For future reference, candidates can access their results by visiting the official KNEC portal at results.knec.ac.ke and entering their index number and registered name as per their examination registration data

KNEC has also provided a toll-free number for candidates facing difficulties accessing their results: 0800724900 or 0800721410.

We recommend that candidates and parents remain patient and periodically attempt to access the portal as KNEC addresses the technical challenges.

Chelsea Football Club has released an official statement regarding their player, Mykhailo Mudryk, following an adverse finding in a routine doping test conducted by the Football Association (FA).

According to the statement, the FA recently contacted Mudryk concerning the test result, which has raised questions about the presence of a banned substance in his sample.

Both the Club and Mykhailo fully support The FA’s testing programme and all our players, including Mykhailo, are regularly tested. Chelsea affirmed its support for the FA’s anti-doping program and emphasized that all their players, including Mudryk, undergo regular testing to ensure compliance with the regulations. The club stated that Mudryk has categorically denied knowingly using any banned substances and is cooperating fully with the authorities to determine the cause of the adverse finding.

The club also reassured fans that they take such matters seriously and will work closely with the relevant authorities to resolve the issue. While the investigation is ongoing, Chelsea has expressed confidence in Mudryk’s integrity and remains committed to supporting him throughout the process.

In their statement, Chelsea noted that no further comments will be made on the matter until the investigation concludes. It is unclear at this stage whether Mudryk will face any sanctions or a suspension from football activities, as the findings are still being reviewed by the authorities.

This development comes as a significant concern for both the player and the club, given Mudryk’s importance to Chelsea’s squad and his high-profile transfer earlier in the year. Fans will be eager to see the situation resolved and Mudryk cleared of any wrongdoing.

The football world will be closely following this story as the FA and Chelsea work together to establish the facts behind the test result and determine the next steps.

Jacktone Odhiambo Sentenced to 50 Years for Killing LGBTQ Activist Edwin Chiloba

0

The Eldoret High Court has sentenced Jacktone Odhiambo to 50 years in prison for the murder of LGBTQ activist Edwin Chiloba.

Delivering the ruling, Justice Reuben Nyakundi described the act as a well-calculated, premeditated, and malicious crime that displayed a gross disregard for the sanctity of human life. The court acknowledged the gravity of the offense and the need for justice, both for the victim and society at large.

Justice Nyakundi further emphasized the personal and cultural weight of Edwin Chiloba’s death. As the only son in his family, Chiloba’s tragic murder marked not just the loss of a beloved individual but also the end of his family’s lineage.

This fact deepened the emotional devastation experienced by the family, underscoring the far-reaching consequences of the crime. The judge’s remarks highlighted the irreparable void left behind by such heinous acts of violence.

The case drew significant public and media attention, not only because of Chiloba’s prominence as an LGBTQ activist but also due to the brutal nature of his death. Chiloba, known for his advocacy work and vibrant personality, was seen as a symbol of courage and inclusivity within a society where LGBTQ individuals often face discrimination and violence. His murder sent shockwaves across the country and beyond, sparking conversations around human rights, safety, and equality.

In his ruling, Justice Nyakundi made it clear that crimes of such magnitude would not go unpunished, reinforcing the court’s role in upholding justice and deterring future offenses. The 50-year sentence serves as a strong message to society, condemning violence while offering a measure of closure to Chiloba’s loved ones. The judgment reflects a broader commitment to protecting human dignity and ensuring accountability in the face of senseless loss.

Southampton Parts Ways With Manager Russell Martin With Immediate Effect

0

Southampton Football Club have parted ways with manager Russell Martin with immediate effect following a humiliating 0-5 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur.

The decision comes as pressure mounted on Martin after a string of poor performances, culminating in the heavy loss that further dented Southampton’s campaign. The defeat not only highlighted the team’s defensive frailties but also raised questions about Martin’s tactics and leadership.

Russell Martin, who took charge at Southampton in 2023, was tasked with guiding the club back to the Premier League after their relegation from the top flight. Despite some early promise, inconsistent results have plagued the team, leaving fans and club officials frustrated. The 5-0 loss against Spurs proved to be the tipping point, as Southampton struggled to compete against their opponents, failing to show resilience or fight on the pitch.

The club’s hierarchy felt a change was necessary to stabilize performances and keep hopes alive for a stronger finish to the season. An interim manager is expected to take charge while Southampton begin their search for a permanent replacement. This marks yet another managerial departure for the club, as they aim to address deeper issues and revive their form in the challenging season ahead.
