Sossion: DCI, EACC to Probe TSC For Pervasive Corruption

0

Speaking on Citizen Tv, Former Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Secretary General Wilson Sossion pushed for the investigation on Teachers Service Commission (TSC) claiming that corruption has been rampant including teachers handing out bribes to be employed.

“For you to be employed as a P1 teacher you must pay Ksh.350,000 and some of these employment letters are sold through government officers. To be employed as a graduate is Ksh.500,000 and to be promoted is Ksh.150,000,” he said.

“I’m willing to be a witness in all these forensic processes as an insider who has worked in this space. I am ready to defend it in a court of law or anywhere because this is a very serious matter. We are talking about the destruction of the lives of the children of this country.” he added

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) being one of Kenya’s most significant public institutions, responsible for managing the teaching workforce in public schools ,it  has promoted 51,232 teachers.

The TSC’s duties include hiring, deploying, promoting, and disciplining teachers across the country. Given the vital role that education plays in national development, any corruption within the TSC could have far-reaching consequences, potentially affecting the quality of education, the morale of teachers, and the integrity of the entire educational system.

The EACC’s probe could lead to significant reforms within the TSC, restoring integrity to the institution and ensuring that it operates in the best interests of Kenya’s teachers and students.

Eliud Kipchoge Visits Manchester United Players At Carrington England

0

Eliud Kipchoge, the legendary Kenyan marathon runner, is widely celebrated as one of the greatest long-distance runners of all time. His visit to the Manchester United players at their Carrington training ground was a meeting of athletic excellence across two very different sports.

For both the Manchester United team and Kipchoge, this interaction provided a unique opportunity to share insights, experiences, and the common values that drive success at the highest levels of competition.

Kipchoge’s visit was not just a chance meeting but a deliberate gathering where sportsmanship, discipline, and mental fortitude were at the forefront. Known for his remarkable achievement of being the first human to run a marathon in under two hours, Kipchoge embodies a level of determination and focus that is rarely seen, even in the world of professional sports. His mantra, “No human is limited,” speaks volumes about his approach to life and sport. This mindset is something that resonates deeply within the ethos of a football club like Manchester United, which prides itself on pushing boundaries and achieving greatness.

During his visit, Kipchoge had the opportunity to interact with the players, coaches, and support staff. He shared stories from his illustrious career, detailing the grueling training regimens and the mental strategies he employs to maintain his elite status. Kipchoge’s emphasis on consistency, patience, and maintaining a positive mental attitude likely struck a chord with the players, who face their own set of physical and mental challenges on the football pitch. His visit served as a powerful reminder that success in sports, whether it be football or marathon running, hinges not just on physical ability but also on mental strength and resilience.

Moreover, Kipchoge’s visit underscored the significance of having a strong support system. The marathoner often speaks about the role of his training team, coaches, and family in his success. This is akin to the teamwork and camaraderie that is vital in football, where individual brilliance is often the result of collective effort. Manchester United, a club with a rich history of teamwork and collaboration, can draw parallels between Kipchoge’s success and their own pursuits on the field.

Kipchoge’s visit also highlighted the role of mental resilience in overcoming challenges. In both marathon running and football, athletes are often faced with situations where they must push beyond their perceived limits.

Whether it’s running the final miles of a marathon or playing through injury in a critical match, the mental toughness to keep going is what separates the greats from the rest. Kipchoge’s experiences and his ability to maintain focus under immense pressure provided valuable lessons for the Manchester United players, who often find themselves in high-stakes situations where mental strength is key.

Starlink Eyes Internet, Mobile Services on Satellite Upgrade

0

Starlink is a satellite internet constellation project developed by SpaceX, designed to provide high-speed, low-latency internet access across the globe.

The satellite internet owned by American billionaire Elon Musk plans to bring internet and mobile services to subscribers’ phones. In an update on its official website, starlink said that the new satellites will have an advanced Evolved Node B (eNodeB). The satellite will offer a speed ranging from 100Mbps to 200Mbps.

“From Safaricom’s perspective, the sentiments and the letter they shared were around Starlink being regulated in the same manner other ISPs are in the country. They feel it is not a level playing field from this perspective,” said Kemibaro the tech expert.

“I know for a fact that many people initially purchased Starlink to see if it was any better than their existing ISPs on fibre and other wireless services. “In many instances where Starlink has been installed properly, they are seeing far better performance, and many are making permanent switches at home and at work,” he added

Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba has today announced that public school teachers across the country will receive their July and August salary increments by Friday, August 30, 2024. “As proof the Government’s good faith and commitment to address teachers’ concerns, the Teachers Service Commission has worked round the clock to ensure that all public school teachers are paid their July and August salary raises by Friday this week,” said Ogomba

“To restore full industrial harmony in the education sector, the Government is engaged in talks with the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET). We are confident that these talks will result in KUPPET members returning to work, given that the Government has fully implemented the second phase of the CBA and that the other administrative issues are being addressed by the Teachers Service Commission.”

The government on Sunday released Ksh.21.8 Billion to all public schools ahead of the school reopening set for Monday, August 26, 2024. This came after a looming nationwide teachers’ strike.
