Over 200K Students Make It to University, KCSE 2024 Results

The 2024 KCSE results have officially been released by Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba at Mitihani House in South C, Nairobi, on Thursday, January 9. 

A total of 962,512 candidates sat for the national examinations, which were conducted across 10,754 centres nationwide. Several candidates excelled, with some achieving the coveted A grade, while a significant number attained the minimum university entry grade of C+ and above. According to the CS, 246, 391 attained university grades, attributed to the new grading system.

Ogamba stated that in 2024, 10 subjects recorded an overall drop in performance compared to 2023

“10 subjects recorded a drop in performance compared to 2023. Female candidates performed better in several subjects while male candidates outperformed their female counterparts in 23 subjects,” Ogamba said.

Ways to Check KCSE 2024 Results

1. SMS Method

The SMS method is one of the fastest and most convenient ways to receive your results, especially if you don’t have internet access. Simply:

Open your phone’s messaging app.

Type your Index Number (make sure it’s accurate) followed by the word KCSE (e.g., 12345678910KCSE).

Send the SMS to 20076 (standard SMS charges apply).

Wait for a reply, which will typically arrive within minutes.

Advantages:

Quick and accessible anywhere.

Doesn’t require internet connectivity.

In addition, ensure you have sufficient airtime (minimum Ksh. 25) and also avoid sending multiple requests during peak hours to minimize delays.

2. Online Portal Method

For those who need a detailed breakdown of their results or wish to print them, the KNEC online portal is the best option. Use the steps below:

Visit the official KNEC website: www.knec.ac.ke.

Log in with your credentials. If you don’t have an account, create one by following the on-screen instructions.

Navigate to the “KCSE Results” section.

Enter your Index Number and select the exam year.

Click “Submit” to view your results.

Download or print your results for future reference.

Provides a detailed breakdown of scores.

Allows you to save or print a copy of your results.

Tips:

 

Use a reliable internet connection to avoid interruptions.

Access the portal during off-peak hours to reduce server congestion.

3. School Visits

Schools are official distribution centers for KCSE 2024 results. This traditional method remains relevant, especially for students who prefer physical copies or lack access to digital platforms. All you need to do is:

Visit your school on the day of the results release (some schools might delay posting the results by a day or two).
