The Ministry of Education has ordered the immediate closure of boarding sections in 348 primary schools due to non-compliance with security and registration laws. Education Principal Secretary (PS) Belio Kipsang emphasized the critical importance of student safety and directed swift action to address the violations. He instructed officials to promptly inform parents and close the affected dormitories, ensuring that no students remain in unsafe conditions.
“Student safety cannot be compromised. The inspection showed that these schools have failed to meet the minimum standards required by law,” said PS Belio Kipsang.
The schools, located across various counties, were found to have failed to meet required safety and regulatory standards. As part of the closure order, these schools must undergo a rigorous re-registration process, during which they will be required to address the issues identified before they can reopen their boarding facilities. The Ministry has made it clear that these schools will not be allowed to resume operations until they demonstrate full compliance with security protocols and registration requirements.
“The directors of education must act swiftly to close these facilities and communicate the changes to parents,” he stated, emphasizing the need for transparency and parental involvement. “We are asking parents to develop solid strategies to accommodate the changes before schools reopen next year,” Kipsang added.
Parents have been advised to make alternative accommodation and transportation arrangements for their children in preparation for the 2025 school semester. The Ministry has committed to ensuring that the safety and welfare of students are prioritized as the government enforces strict compliance with educational regulations.
